Extent of Lamoille Watershed Hydraulic Model, 2025

In 2025, the Northern Vermont Economic Development District (NVEDD) completed hydraulic modeling, flood mitigation alternative analyses and long-term flood recovery and resiliency planning for the Lamoille River Watershed of Northern Vermont. This work was funded through a United States of America Economic Development Administration Grant.  The hydraulic modeling and alternative analyses were performed by consultants, SLR International Inc. The deliverables and results of this work can be viewed below.

 


NVEDD Long Term Recovery and Resiliency Plan

The Long Term Recovery & Resilience Plan captures common flood impacts, risks, and challenges experienced by communities along the Lamoille River. It also outlines recommended strategies and actions based on the common risks and challenges identified by individuals, towns, and businesses after flood disasters. The Plan concludes with key actions and potential next steps and projects identified by communities and project partners.

 

Lamoille River Hydraulic Modeling Report

Using data inputs about water flows and existing infrastructure around the river, the flood model can be used to identify areas of flood risk, determine what potential impacts at various flood frequencies are, where impacts may occur, and analyze the potential benefits of flood mitigation strategies.  These strategies can be analyzed to understand potential effects on water surface elevations, velocities, and other co benefits prior to the significant investments required for implementation.  This information can ultimately help communities prioritize projects and justify investments, showing real and measurable outcomes from mitigation projects.
