Transit is provided by several different organizations in the Lamoille County Region. Green Mountain Transit Authority, managed by Chittenden County Transit Authority, offers four fixed route services in Lamoille County that include a commuter route to Waterbury, between town/in-town routes, and a seasonal route. Rural Community Transit offers a shopping shuttle, demand response bus services, Medicaid transportation, Reach Up transportation and transportation services for the elderly and disabled.
Another significant piece is transportation provided by human service providers. LCPC partners with Northern Vermont Development Association (NVDA) to coordinate the Lamoille/North East Kingdom Elderly and Disabled Transportation Partners Committee that strives to coordinate E&D transportation services.
Elderly and Disabled (E&D) Transportation Program
This transportation program provides funding for transport of persons age 60 or over, and/or persons with disabilities as defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act. The Lamoille and Northeast Kingdom Elderly and Disabled Persons (E&D) Transportation Program Advisory Committee assists with the coordination and cooperation of E&D transportation services. The group meets on a quarterly basis or as needed.
The E&D Transportation Advisory Committee is comprised of Regional Planning Commissions (LCPC and NVDA), the Vermont Agency of Transportation and the following human service agencies and transit providers: Rural Community Transit, Vocational Rehabilitation, Central Vermont Council on Aging (CVCOA), Meals on Wheels, Lamoille County Mental Health, and Out and About Adult Day Center, Northeast Kingdom Community Action (NEKCA), and Area Agency on Aging (NEVAAA).
